Alemao tries to find a teammate with a cute backheel in the Barca box. However, Nteka isn't on the same page, and it's played away from danger by the hosts.

Goal 5-2
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! 5-2! There it is, the final nail in the coffin, and it comes from Yamal! A passing move comes to an end as Adeyemi pops the ball back from the left, and the 19-year-old curls a beauty of a strike past Cardenas and into the bottom-left corner!

C
Yellow Card
Pedrosa flies into Abdelkarim as he tries to keep a Barca counter on the move from a poor Rayo corner. Yellow card.

Kounde races down the right of the box and nearly keeps it in with a looping cross from the byline. Adeyemi lurks, but the belated whistle comes to signal the goal kick.

S
Substitution
The new Salah? Well, the hype has been high surrounding Hamza Abdelkarim since he arrived from Al-Ahly and had a solid preseason. He enters the fray for one of today's best performers, the brace-getting Raphinha.

Alemao nearly races through the high backline with a smart drag with his left foot. However, Cubarsi reacts expertly with a well-executed tackle. Just in time.

Nteka fires straight at Joan Garcia after fine play from Camello down the left. The keeper is hardly troubled.

Lejeune goes for a speculative effort from long range. The Frenchman drags it wide.

Adeyemi! The German substitute finds himself in space, yet just can't beat Cardenas with a right-footed effort!

The increasingly popular Gordon is the next to take to the touchline. On comes Karim Adeyemi.
77'
S
Substitution
Flick opts for more fresh legs now as Pedri is replaced by Joao Cancelo.
77'
•
comment
Barcelona reportedly had 69% possession over the last 15 minutes of this second half. Can Rayo make a dent in this and the score with a left-sided free-kick? With it high and overhit, the answer is no.
75'
S
Substitution
Rayo's second change sees the assisting Lopez head off for Randy Nteka.
75'
S
Substitution
More changes for the visitors now, as the brace-bagging Camello comes off for Alemao.

comment
Gordon is nearly played through again, but on the right centre. Alas, the ball is just too far ahead and Cardenas can collect.
71'
•
Assist
It's brilliant awareness from Gordon here to sense his outside runner and go for a cute flick. That's his third assist of the campaign.
71'
+
Goal 4-2
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! 4-2! Pressure? What pressure? Barcelona truly signal the end of a solid Rayo spell as Gordon is played in over the top on the left. He cuts in, and flicks it back for Raphinha on the overlap to drive on and finish past Cardenas in style for his fifth of the season!
69'
•
comment
The Barcelona fans are making a great noise, and it's certainly helping their players to make progress after some solid Rayo pressure. Yamal squares from the right for Fermin, but it's blocked well!
67'
•
comment
Perez does well on the left and turns Pedri inside and out. His cross is deflected across the box before Rayo can win a corner on the right. This ultimately comes to nothing, though, and fortunately for the visitors, Barca fail to counter.
65'
•
comment
Yamal goes down in the area, yet the ball moves on to the right to be crossed. Espart rises to attack it, but his header is far too high of the target.

The next is met with more decibels, as Bernal is taken off for Rodri.
64'
S
Substitution
The first alteration sees Olmo replaced by Fermin Lopez.

Barcelona look to get into the more routine groove now, yet Yamal sees a cross blocked. After Bernal sees a corner shout go against him, Flick's side see changes on the horizon.

Camello! It's nearly a third for the striker! Joan Garcia saves from Alvaro Garcia, and Camello nearly converts the rebound. He's blocked off just in time!

What a day for Camello. The striker has notched a La Liga brace for the first time since a January 2024 clash against Getafe.
59'

Lopez's corner not only helps Camello grab his third of the campaign, but also registers the midfielder's first assist of the season.

Goal 3-2
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! 3-2! IT'S CAMELLO AT THE DOUBLE! Rayo refuse to let up as Lopez swings in a great corner from the right. Camello rises well and nods it across Joan Garcia and into the bottom-left corner!
57'

Substitution
After a quiet evening, De Frutos is the next to head off. On comes Fran Perez.
57'
S
Substitution
San Jose goes to the bench now for a double change. The first of the two sees Bouare make way for Pedro Diaz.
55'

comment
Rayo look to race forward in somewhat surprising fashion. Alas, the Barca defence manage to force them back before De Frutos is found in an offside position.
52'
•
comment
Well, we spoke of De Frutos earlier... He was unfortunately the man to give the ball away in midfield with an uncharacteristically poor first touch. It hasn't been the best day for the pacey winger.

Own Goal 3-1
OWN GOAL! 3-1! Gordon is played in down the left of the box after Rayo are dispossessed in midfield. He tries to pull the ball back for Raphinha, yet Lejeune intercepts and bundles it into his own net!
50'
•
comment
Need an example of how isolated some of Rayo's attacking players were in that first half? Right winger De Frutos had just five touches in the first 45 minutes. Talking of isolated, here's Camello high up the pitch... He's dispossessed after a hopeful flick through.
48'

Yamal nearly sculpts a perfect through ball, but Lejeune intercepts well. The winger gets the ball back but can only fire over.

Barcelona get us back into the action for the second half.

comment
So far in this one, it's been much of the regular Barcelona pattern. Passing with intent within beautifully flowing moves up the field has led to chances. Rayo have been rocking at the back at times, but will be thankful that Kounde's tap-in wasn't added to two wonderful pieces of scoring quality. The side from the southeastern outskirts of Madrid have done well to play above their 0.37 xG, especially considering that they've taken just three shots in the first half and had just 27% possession. Barcelona, on the other hand, have looked much the better side, even when behind. They've worked well from one down to make their quality on the ball bear fruit and push above their 1.96 xG. At the time of writing, the Opta Supercomputer sees the reigning La Liga champions with a 90.5% win probability. The chance of a draw comes in at just 7.3%, while a Rayo win is even slimmer at 2.2%.

half_time summary
Half-time then, and two minutes were all it took for Barcelona to overturn Rayo Vallecano's first-half lead and ultimately head into the break 2-1 up. Arriving much against the run of play, Alvaro Garcia darted down the left flank on the counter in the 12th minute. He worked the space brilliantly before pulling back from the byline to set up a smart near-post finish for Sergio Camello's second goal of the campaign. Seven minutes and a constant spell of pressure later, Barcelona were level. After receiving the ball from Xavi Espart, Raphinha jinked past Pathe Ciss on the edge of the area before slotting past Dani Cardenas with aplomb. In what felt like a heartbeat, the Blaugrana had their second, and in some style too. Barca arms were raised as Ciss was adjudged to have handled the ball. Alas, no spot-kick came, and Marc Bernal stayed on his toes to chase the play and find Lamine Yamal. He danced inside from the right expertly, and opened his league account with a deliciously whipped strike into the top-right corner. Before the interval, it could've been 3-1 as Jules Kounde finished well from an Anthony Gordon-induced Cardenas parry. Alas, the VAR team correctly saw that the Frenchman was offside.

Gordon wins his side another corner now, as a guided effort is deflected behind. This is cleared before the hosts build back up the pitch until Bouare tackles Yamal on the edge of the Rayo box.

Cardenas has to punch Raphinha's flat corner delivery from the right. The whistle then sounds for a foul in there on Bouare.

The first corner hits the near post area, and Lejeune has to flick it on and behind for another set-piece.

Bernal shows a sharp drop of the shoulder and opens up space for a shot. It's always rising, yet Cardenas has to tip over! Corner to come.
38'
•
comment
After Garcia saves a deflected Bouare shot off Kounde, Barcelona come forward again in trademark fashion. The passing is crisp and unrelenting. Thus, the offside flag against Raphinha arrives as a welcome break for the visitors.

Gordon works some space for himself as he cuts back inside from the left flank. His driving shot goes through the bodies but ends up straight at Cardenas.

Rayo make good ground now and force Cubarsi to concede a throw on the left. Lopez's long throw comes in, yet it's cleared with Lejeune loitering.

Raphinha takes the set-piece short from the right, and Pedri blasts over from the edge of the box.

A foul on Yamal comes as the latest statement of Rayo's hemmed-in struggles.
25'
•
comment
In somewhat frustrating fashion, Rayo are back to square one. They're trying to get out of their territory, yet going long isn't the best idea for a relatively short team. There's no obvious pass against this Barca press!
23'
•
comment
That goal will do Yamal's confidence the world of good after something of an uncharacteristic World Cup. He now has two in seven total games against Rayo Vallecano.
21'
•
Assist
It's top work from Bernal there. Raphinha and co. were rooted asking for a penalty, yet the young midfielder was one of few to stay alert and find Yamal to fire in spectacularly. That's his first assist of the season.
21'
+
Goal 2-1
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! WOW! 2-1 BARCELONA! The Blaugrana have made light work of Rayo's lead. An initial Ciss handball shout is ignored, and the ball is worked back out of the box. Bernal pokes it to Yamal, and the Spanish prodigy fires into the top-right corner with aplomb for his first goal of the league campaign.
19'
•
Assist
Espart grabs the assist for this one with a relatively simple pass. That's his second assist of the season.
19'

Goal 1-1
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! 1-1! RAPHINHA SLIDES HOME TO GET BARCA BACK ON LEVEL TERMS! The Brazilian notches his fourth of the season as a fake shot sees him edge past Ciss with ease. Cardenas dives early, and the cornrowed forward slots the ball into the bottom-right corner beautifully!
17'
•
comment
Olmo and Gordon work well together, yet when the ball is worked out to the right of the box, Yamal fluffs his lines!
16'
•
comment
Barcelona have had 80% possession over the opening 15 minutes of this game, yet they trail. Talk about efficiency from the visitors!
15'

Barcelona's third corner in quick succession sees Olmo go for a shot from distance on the left. It just whizzes wide.
15'

Christensen rises to the right-sided corner delivery, yet heads behind off Valentin. The second corner attempt only brings a third.
14'
•
comment
A smart Olmo flick nearly sees Raphinha get a leveller at the right post, yet it goes behind for a corner! How long will it take for Barcelona to muster a response?
12'
•
Assist
What a counter from the visitors. It's great work from Garcia to pick up his first assist of the campaign, as well as giving Camello his second strike of the season.
12'

Goal 0-1
GOOOOOAAAALLLLL! 1-0 RAYO! AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY, RAYO SNATCH THE LEAD WITH CAMELLO! Garcia bolts down the left wing and pulls the ball back from the byline for Camello to power home at the near post! He has now scored seven goals in his last nine La Liga appearances.
10'

comment
Yamal tries to cut in from the right, yet his effort is quickly blocked. Barcelona are really peppering the Rayo area now. The ball is not lasting long in visiting possession.
8'

SLICK STUFF FROM BARCA! The right-sided corner goes short, and Yamal executes a smart interchange with Pedri. He then pokes it across goal from the right, yet no one is there to finish things off!

The resulting corner from Raphinha's set-piece is half dealt with. The Brazilian wins another on the right, though.

Raphinha! Deflected wide! The Brazilian takes a low free-kick from the right, and a miskick spins the ball past Cardenas' left post!

The left-sided corner comes in for the hosts, yet Gordon is stopped before it's cleared. After this, Yamal is bodychecked by Vertrouwd on the right just outside the box.
4'

First glimpses of Yamal now, as he cuts back from the right of the box and looks for Pedri. He picks his pass, and the bleach-blonde-haired midfielder sees an effort blocked. In the next phase, Barca win a corner.
3'

comment
Early pressure on Cardenas sees a sweeping kick fly off for a throw. Barca take up possession and try to gain some early control in these scrappy opening exchanges.
1'

comment
Rayo immediately go long from kick-off and win a corner as Barca track back. The left-sided delivery is taken, yet floats through the box, evading everyone. As the hosts look to break, Raphinha is brought down by Garcia.

And we're off in Barcelona!
•
comment
Out come the players now to typical Camp Nou fanfare. The scarves are up, and the home fans are contributing to an already-exciting atmosphere. The captains, Raphinha and Valentin, meet with today's chief official, Francisco Jose Hernandez Maeso. It looks like the visitors will get us started, playing from right to left.
•
comment
While Barcelona only beat Athletic Club 2-0, their stat sheet suggested that they could've had more. In fact, they ended up taking 22 shots and created four big chances, hinting that Flick's attack-happy Blaugrana could happily add to their seven goals this season. Even better, and on for three wins from their first three games, it's no wonder that people are wondering whether they could go on to break their own record of 95 goals and 94 points from last season. It is still early, mind. Furthermore, now would be a perfect time for Rayo to turn things around. That said, a loss today would see them fail to register a victory in their opening three league matches for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign under Paco Jemez.

Chasing a 21st consecutive home league win and yet to concede a single goal, last season’s champions Barcelona look to extend their 100% record early in the La Liga season as they welcome Rayo Vallecano to Catalonia. Rayo hit the road carrying just one point from their opening two games and a stadium crisis that has already forced them to play a home match away from Vallecas. They have taken just one point from their opening two fixtures under new coach Benat San Jose, losing 2-1 to Sevilla on the opening day, despite the opposition finishing the game with 10 men, before drawing 1-1 with Alaves. The imperious Barca started their campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Elche before a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, pushing their unbeaten home record to 20.
