FULL-TIME: REAL BETIS 1-0 REAL MADRID
90'
C
Yellow Card
For some frustrated full-time complaints to the day's chief official, Vinicius is booked.
90'
highlight
SAVE! Espi rises to the left-sided corner and Valles tips over!
90'
comment
After a check from the VAR team, Madrid complaints are waved away and play resumes with a corner on the left.
90'
Penalty Miss
That is a WOEFUL penalty from Mbappe! There is a brief question of whether the keeper is off his line, but it looks like he had a foot back there!
90'
C
Yellow Card
It's a RIDICULOUS challenge from Natan! He rightfully slides himself into the referee's book.
90'
comment
PENALTY REAL MADRID! Vinicius darts to the left byline and sends the ball back across. Natan slides in and wipes him out completely!
90'
comment
Just like the end of the first half, there'll be a minimum of six minutes of added time.
88'
S
Substitution
In another late throw of the dice, Cucurella comes off for Alvaro Carreras.
88'
highlight
GOAL DISALLOWED! Vinicius sends in a beauty of a Trivela cross from the left, and Espi volleys home superbly! However, the goal is disallowed by VAR for the tightest of offsides in the build-up!
85'
highlight
OFF THE BAR! Mbappe scoops out a cross from the right of the Betis box, and it clips the crossbar before the hosts can clear the dropping ball!
83'
C
Yellow Card
As a nervy post-goal period goes on, Roca is booked for dissent after a foul.
82'
S
Substitution
Right after conceding, Mourinho brings off Valverde for young Carlos EspI.

Goal 1-0
GOOOAAAALLLLLL! 1-0 BETIS! PARROT TAKES FLIGHT IN LA LIGA! The substitute has the opener for the hosts as a right-sided corner is headed on target by Deossa. Courtois saves, and the Irishman powers home the rebound! What an opponent to open your league account against!
79'
comment
Parrott races after a long, looping ball forward. His run is pushed out to the left touchline, with Trent in hot pursuit. He twists and turns, but the Scouser prevails in his defensive efforts. Great battle.
77'
S
Substitution
The hosts look for fresh influence again now, as Antony heads off for Rodrigo Riquelme.
76'
comment
After the water break, we're back underway as Real Madrid try to make their possession count as we breach the final 15 minutes of regular time.
73'
comment
Parrott! Just over! Fornals sets the ball for the substitute, yet his first-time strike from distance can't cap a cute, inward team move from the right flank. Comfortably over. Now we have another hydration break.
72'
comment
Bellingham turns well in the Betis half and tries to make something happen. His powerful run only gets so far, and the bouncing ball is taken away from him before he can feed Vinicius.
70'
comment
Madrid try to break out of a bit of a turgid spell. However, Vinicius can't manage any progress on the left flank.
68'
S
Substitution
Hernandez's race is run now. On comes Irish forward Troy Parrott.
68'
S
Substitution
More alterations now, this time for Betis. Off comes the recently cautioned Bernal. Nelson Deossa enters in his place.
67'
comment
Trent's first action is a cross into the box from the right. However, the well-drilled back line makes sure that it's headed out. In the next phase, a falling Mbappe sees a shot saved down low by Valles.
64'
S
Substitution
Another player on a booking, Guler is replaced by Yan Diomande.
64'
S
Substitution
The former Premier League contingent rises in numbers, as Dumfries is the next to come off for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
64'
S
Substitution
Madrid go for a triple change now, first taking off the recently-booked Camavinga for Bernanrdo Silva.
64'
C
Yellow Card
There's a Betis man in the book now, as Bernal pulls Vinicius back from a counter as a home corner comes to nothing.
63'
comment
Konate heads a right-sided cross out of the Madrid box. It's a good thing too, as Hernandez was shaping up for a bicycle kick!
61'
C
Yellow Card
Camavinga picks up another booking for Madrid, hauling Roca to the turf with two arms around his torso in the middle of the Betis half.
60'
S
Substitution
Betis go for their first change in this one, taking off Isco for Alvaro Fidalgo.
59'
comment
Close! Hernandez does well with a drive on the right and looks to slide it through for an offside runner. Courtois claims nonetheless.
56'
comment
Perhaps a reflection of their struggles in front of goal tonight, Madrid have committed nine fouls in this match, higher than their season average of 7.6 in La Liga.
54'
C
Yellow Card
Tempers flare now! Konate chops down Garcia, earning himself and an angry Mourinho a booking in the process!
53'
comment
Oooh it's naughty from Guler! He trips Fornals as he drives away from the Betis box. The Turk is on a yellow card, remember. He's perhaps lucky not to receive another!
51'
comment
Guler skips inside his marker on the right and wins a free-kick, losing his boot in the process. The following ball in is poor, though, and well claimed by Valles.
49'
comment
Natan does excellently to stop a Dumfries drive down the right. He then uses his body smartly to win the physical duel.
47'
comment
Mbappe has the first shot of the second half, as he sends an effort off target to the right from range.
46'
comment
Real Madrid get us back into the action for the second half, now playing from left to right.
comment
While Betis have done well to grow in confidence, especially on the counter with limited possession, their chances have amassed an underperformed xG of 0.11. Madrid, on the other hand, have looked the brightest of the bunch, but have found themselves stifled to play beneath their lofty 2.09 xG. With the sheer amount of talent in their ranks, it does feel like a matter of time in this one. The Opta Supercomputer supports this, giving the visitors a 54.3% chance of winning. A draw comes in at a slightly lower 29.4%, while Betis will really have to pull their fingers out to outdo their 16.3% chance of victory.
comment
The whistle sounds in Seville and we head into the interval goalless between Real Betis and Real Madrid. It's not been for the want of trying, though, as Madrid asserted early control. In the 11th minute, Valles was forced into a fine save from a Huijsen poke, before the 15th minute saw Vinicius hit the post from a tight angle on the left at the end of a smart team move. After Hernandez dragged one wide up the other end, attention turned to Llorente and Roca in the centre of the park. The twisting and turning defender accidentally collided with his midfielder, cutting his face in the head-to-head and forcing a substitution. After Mbappe was somehow kept out by two last-ditch blocks, and Bellingham saw a header saved by Valles, the collision contributed to a large stoppage, allowing more chances. Again, though, Betis hung on, even flashing an effort across the face of Courtois' goal before Huijsen went on to hit Valles' crossbar up the other end.
45'
comment
HALF-TIME: REAL BETIS 0-0 REAL MADRID
45'
highlight
HUIJSEN! Madrid win a corner and Huijsen heads on target. The Betis stopper rises well to tip it over for another set-piece! Hang on, on second viewing, it looks like it hit the bar!
45'
highlight
FLASHED ACROSS THE FACE! Fornals skips through to the right byline and whizzes a low ball back across. However, Hernandez just can't reach it!
45'
C
Yellow Card
After a failed attack, Guler tracks back as Fornals takes up possession in the middle. The experienced midfielder reads the situation from a mile off, puts his body between man and ball, and then wins a foul. The young Turkish international finds himself in the book for his troubles.
45'
comment
There'll be a minimum of six minutes of added time, mainly thanks to Llorente and Roca's clash of heads.
45'
highlight
SAVE! Bellingham rises to a left-sided corner after Vinicius wins the set-piece. The ball in is great for the Englishman, but he can only watch on as Valles flies across his line to save well!
43'
highlight
CHANCES! Vinicius squares from the left for Mbappe, but Bartra blocks from close range. The Frenchman keeps chasing it and fires again, yet is denied once more! How is this still 0-0?
43'
comment
After Guler flashes an effort comfortably over from the edge of the Betis box, Madrid come again now. Vinicius races through...
41'
comment
A zipping Madrid move forward really catches the eye now. Dumfries is fed in on the right and crosses for Mbappe. However, Bellerin reacts well to nod it behind. Regardless, the visitors concede a foul in the scrappy build-up spell.
39'
S
Substitution
He shakes his head, but Llorente has to come off. He is replaced by the equally experienced Marc Bartra.
38'
comment
Good news. The players are up now, albeit with the bloodied Llorente looking a little worse for wear. It looks like his night is over.
36'
comment
Ouch. A clash of heads between teammates Roca and Llorente in the middle brings a stoppage in play.
33'
comment
Artful play on the right by Guler sees space open up amongst the Betis ranks. He then looks for Vinicius, but the Brazilian can't slide the ball past Valles. It's just ahead of him.
31'
comment
Back into the action then, and Huijsen and Antony are giving the referee something to think about. Madrid's confidence has started to wane, it must be said. The Dutchman must be careful, that's his second high-flying tackle in a short space of time.
29'
comment
After Huijsen's bundling challenge on the crafty Hernandez, we go into a hydration break. What a touching throwback to this summer's World Cup.
28'
comment
Courtois claims now as Antony sends in a secondary cross after an initial Fornals ball is headed out. Madrid now burst forward on the counter, yet the green and white shirts flood back before Hernandnez is fouled by Huijsen.
25'
comment
Although Real Madrid have attempted eight shots in this game so far, Betis are growing in confidence with every foray forward. They could catch Mourinho's side by surprise if they're not careful.
23'
comment
Vinicius nearly chisels out a sly pass for Mbappe to chase inside the Betis box, yet Llorente does well to intercept.
21'
highlight
CLOSE! Speak of the devil, Hernandez just drags a volleyed effort wide of the left post after fine work from Antony! He insists there's a touch from a defender, but the referee is unmoved. Goal kick.
19'
comment
Betis' Cucho Hernandez has scored in two of his last four La Liga starts against Real Madrid, netting once for Huesca in March 2019 and once for his current club last January. He looks lively when his side manage a brief sliver of possession.
17'
comment
Antony looks dangerous, and a shot on target results in a corner. Isco takes, yet the visitors clear.
16'
comment
Madrid have had 74% possession over the opening 15 minutes of this game. It feels like they're warming themselves up nicely here. How will Betis respond?
15'
highlight
OFF THE POST! Vinicius tries to fire in from a tight angle on the left inside the box, but he just can't get it the right side of the woodwork! It's a lovely dink over the top from Mbappe to set Guler in on the right to square... What a move that could've been!
13'
comment
Real Madrid’s starting XI today has an average age of 26 years and 198 days. This comes as their youngest in a La Liga game this season.
11'
highlight
BIG SAVE VALLES! A right-sided short Madrid corner is cleared, but the second ball in finds Huijsen! He stretches and pokes on target, but the Betis keeper is equal to the effort with a great reflex stop!
9'
comment
A cute lofted ball is nodded back from the right of the box by Dumfries to Vinicius. Alas, the Brazilian's flicked effort is off target. It looks like the flag was up against the Dutchman in the build-up anyway.
7'
comment
Big sighs from the home crowd now, as Betis look to spring a counter down the left. Fornals just can't get his touch right on the break away.
5'
comment
After an issue with the matchball delays proceedings, Guler whips in the left-sided set-piece, but aside from a flick-on, no one in the Madrid camp can get on the end of it.
3'
comment
The opening exchanges are characterised by typical on-ball confidence from Real Madrid. The men in maroon win a free-kick high on the left in a dangerous crossing position.
1'
comment
So good they named him twice? Tonight’s referee, Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez, blows his whistle, and Betis kick us off!
comment
Out come the players now, and this green part of Seville is jumping! Will the fans be rewarded with an equally exuberant performance tonight?
comment
Real Madrid are, along with Deportivo de La Coruna, the only La Liga team not to have been behind for a single minute this season. Will this imperious trend continue this evening? Or, will Betis shake things up? It's sure to be an interesting watch!
team news
After their last match saw a 4-0 triumph over Malaga, Jose Mourinho has also gone for three alterations today. Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, and Arda Guler replace Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Brahim Diaz.
